Welcome to The Arles Project, a multimedia website that explores the culture, personalities, current affairs and environment of Arles, a city in the South of France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Arles Project is a four-week multimedia study-abroad program co-sponsored by the journalism study-abroad provider Institute for Education in International Media (ieiMedia) <\/a>and the language academy Arles \u00e0 la carte<\/em><\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Seventeen students from eight American schools — City College of San Francisco, Drake University, Loyola University New Orleans, San Francisco State University, Syracuse University, Tulane University, University of California San Diego, and University of Maine — participated in the program from mid-June to mid-July 2024. The students were mentored by veteran journalists and journalism educators. The interpreters were provided by Arles<\/em>\u00a0\u00e0 la\u00a0carte<\/em>. They include Anna Cauvin, Claire Fanchini, Monica Ronco and Katie Thornton. We are indebted to them for their assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For more than two decades, ieiMedia has taken groups of student journalists abroad, where they build relationships with local community leaders and residents to get behind the postcard facades presented to most tourists. Students learned how to navigate as journalists and photographers in a foreign culture by working with French interpreters. They also studied French and learned about the history and culture of the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
