Being one of three Canadians in the program, I was pretty much the butt of all jokes for saying things like ‘washroom’ or ‘grade five’ instead of ‘fifth grade’. If there was only one thing I learned from this program, it is that Canadians truly do have accents. Realistically, this program taught me a lot more than that. I never had the type of journalistic experience that this program gave me, and I think this was the best place to get it. Though I kept getting Italian (which I can’t speak) confused with French (which I do), I managed to pull through in a way I never imagined I could. I learned how to handle journalism in a foreign country, how Canadian I am, and that I am capable of more than I expected. As a whole, I would have to say the time in Urbino was unforgettable, eh?
