Destene Savariau

Destene Savariau is a senior studying journalism at Southern Connecticut State University. She will graduate in May 2024. She is an active member of and leader in her community as she heads a club, SISTAS, and is a member of several other clubs. Destene was the news editor for one and a half years at her university newspaper Southern News, where she wrote two stories per week. She is currently the managing editor of her university magazine, Crescent Magazine, where she oversees story pitches and helps collect sources for stories. In addition, she has a love for writing that extends beyond journalism as she plans to publish her first novel in the fall. Destene hopes to graduate in the fall of 2024 cum laude, with high honors and be on the dean’s list. In addition, she hopes to have a second book deal and a film or television adaptation deal under her belt post-graduation.
