Sam Guzman is a journalism major at Santa Rosa Junior College in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he also studies photography. He started his journalism studies after realizing he could tell people’s stories on a personal level, while also having a large audience. He enjoys profiling people who have been through hardship, such as Ukrainian war refugees. His photographs lean toward the abstract because he wants people to take a moment and wonder. He likes to take portraits and turn them into puzzles, visions and ideas. His work has been displayed at local and school galleries. He hopes to replicate his visual style – direct while leaving much to the imagination – with his words. He enjoys movies and hiking, along with taking care of his dog. During his time in Arles, he hopes to connect with the people and the city.
